Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had a stye for a week, and it started healing, but then my eye became itchy, and now I have a stye in my other eye. I am a contact lens wearer, and I wear my contact lens almost daily. Right now, I am cleaning my eyes daily with physiological serum or Boric acid drops, applying hot gauze pads at night, and using homeopathic drops. I also used an anti-itch eye solution once a day for my itchy eye. Kindly help. Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have reviewed the photos you have attached (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity), and they do not appear to be stye. These are the blocked opening of the meibomian glands. This blockage is the reason for your dry eyes. Meibomian glands are present in both the eyelids, and their openings are on the lid margins. They secrete an oily secretion called sebum, the oily part of the tear film that protects it from evaporation. This is not a serious condition, so there is nothing to worry about. You need to do dry, hot fomentation for 10 minutes per eyelid twice a day, followed by a lid massage for 10 minutes per eyelid in the direction of the openings of the meibomian glands. For the upper eyelid, the massage direction should be from above downwards, and for the lower lid, it should be from below upwards. Then, after consulting your doctor, you can use lubricating eye drops for your dry eyes. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your response.

During these two weeks, can I wear contact lenses occasionally (provided I hydrate my eyes a lot with drops)? Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, you can wear your contact lenses. Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
