Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have had a swollen lip for one week due to a fall. I have been icing it for every 15 minutes. I feel that the swelling is more now. Should I continue icing?
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com. No, please do not apply more ice. If possible, I recommend showing it to your doctor.
I want to ensure that there is no foreign body, infection, or deep laceration. You may require further care, such as possible antibiotics, and it would be important to determine if you need a tetanus vaccination if you haven't had one recently.
Could you share a picture? That way, I can take a closer look and provide further guidance.
I hope this helps. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.
Patient's Query
Thank you doctor,
I did receive 3 stitches, but not advised to put antibiotics. It seemed to begin swelling when I lengthen the intervals between icing.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com. Thank you for sharing your pictures.
Based on the new information, you can continue icing the affected area as you were doing before.
Before suggesting an anti-inflammatory agent, I would like to know if you have any kidney or liver problems or if you are taking any other medications. It is important to gather all the necessary information before recommending an anti-inflammatory agent. This is to help reduce the swelling of your lip.
I hope this clarifies the information. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.
Patient's Query
Thank you doctor,
Now, it is more swollen, hard and painful. What to do?
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com. I'm sorry to hear about your condition. It usually takes two to three weeks for a complete recovery.
I would suggest taking 1000 mg of Tylenol (Acetaminophen), which is two extra strength tablets, twice daily if you do not have any known liver disease. Additionally, you can take 600 mg of Ibuprofen, twice daily if you do not have any established kidney disease. However, it is important to consult your doctor, discuss with him or her, and take the medication with their consent.
I hope this helps. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
