Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
If my dad and just recently my 20 years old brother both have low testosterone levels, what are the chances that I will too? I am 18 years old.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
If low testosterones are due to secondary (acquired) causes then you are spared. The cause of low testosterone should be ascertained in your father which could be done only after detailed history and physical examination because there are number of causes for low testosterone levels. Congenital causes of low testoserone are Klinefelter syndrome, anorchia (bilateral), cryptorchidism, myotonic dystrophy, enzymatic defects in testosterone synthesis, Leydig cell aplasia, and Noonan syndrome. But these diseases are so severe that they interefere in normal reproduction process which is not the case here. So probably it is some acquired cause for which detailed history and examination is required. I would suggest you to consult your physician who can guide you better after thorough examination.
