Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My son is 5 months old. He can hold his head during tummy time and turn his head in both directions. But when we make him sit, he usually looks in one direction. He has a flat head on one side. Does this mean he has torticollis?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

A child with torticollis will not be able to make much neck movements at all, in any direction or position. The very fact that the child can look in both directions during tummy time is suggestive of the child not having torticollis. As regards to the flat head, some kids have it but do not worry. Also, with regards to the child looking in one direction only while sitting means that the child requires a little bit more strength to turn his neck (which should develop with time).

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
