Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am a 70-year-old male weighing 170 pounds and height of 6 feet. Ten years back, I had a transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) procedure for my enlarged prostate. It has now grown back. A urologist suggested I cannot undergo a rezum steam procedure because it does not work on scar tissue. I would like to know if it is true? I do not think I can handle another transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) procedure. I have fibromyalgia and terrible pain resistance. The reports of the tests I underwent are attached. I want to go with the steam procedure if possible. Do you agree that steam does not work after one has had a transurethral resection of prostate (TURP) procedure?
Please help me, doctor.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
It is true that the transurethral recession of prostate (TURP) procedure has more good effects than rezum steam therapy.
Thanks and regards.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thanks for the response.
Could you please explain why the transurethral recession of prostate (TURP) procedure is more good than rezum steam therapy?
Thanks, doctor.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
After any intervention, fibrosis of tissue occurs. The rezum technique is relatively new, and studies are scant related to its efficacy in fibrosed large prostatic glands. Thus transurethral recession of prostate gland (TURP) procedure will remain the gold standard.
Thanks and regards.
