Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My mother, 55 years old, has suffered from typhoid fever and chills for the past month. Although we consulted two doctors, there was no change in the condition. Now she is admitted to a nursing home where she was diagnosed with a lung infection. She also suffered from a seizure a few days back. What could be the reason for this? Will she recover from this? Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

The seizure is likely due to the medication she took for typhoid (tablet Ciprofloxacin), a common cause of convulsions. Regarding the chest infection, please provide me with the latest chest X-ray and also medications. Also, does she has neck stiffness or skin rashes? I would suggest the following:

1. Tablet Augmentin (Amoxycillin and Clavulanic acid) 1 g twice daily for ten days for her chest infection.

2. Stool and blood culture to confirm that typhoid fever is resolved.

3. Follow-up is required to confirm the diagnosis and to exclude any serious conditions.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
