Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have metal braces that were placed on my teeth two months ago. My orthodontist set up a plan to break my jaw and re-align and fix my underbite. However, I was informed today by a different orthodontist that I can have my front teeth where the bottom teeth will angle inward and the top outward to fix my bite. Is this done regularly, or should I go for surgery? What is the term called where they angle the teeth? I am seeking more information regarding angling to determine what I want to move forward with. Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your complaint. Do not panic. The underbite issue can be resolved using two methods. One is the camouflage treatment that involves removing two teeth, one on each side of the lower jaw, to correct the underbite. The other is the surgical treatment done once the growth is completed. As you are 38 years old, your orthodontist suggests you opt for surgery. In this, after teeth alignment, the lower jaws are cut a little bit, the split end is screwed, the underbite is fixed, and proceeds with the final settling of the teeth is. If you do not want to undergo surgery, opt for camouflage treatment. Thank you.
