Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I got my period last month, and after 13 days, I had unprotected sex with my partner. After that, I took contraceptive pills. Till now, I have not had my periods, but I am having brown vaginal discharge and having a lot of itching or swelling in the vagina.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I just read your query. I can understand your concern.

I suppose you took contraceptive pills after having unprotected sex. Your period may be delayed due to the hormonal effects of the pills. However, if you have not had your period for more than three weeks, it is worth monitoring your symptoms and taking a pregnancy test to rule out the possibility of pregnancy.

Here are some suggestions:

1. Wait for a few more weeks. Your period may be delayed due to the hormonal effects of the contraceptive pills. If you continue to experience brown vaginal discharge or itching or swelling in the vagina, it may be worth waiting a few more weeks before taking another pregnancy test.

2. You should consult with a healthcare professional, if you have not had your period for more than three weeks and are experiencing other symptoms such as breast tenderness, fatigue, or mood swings, it may be worth consulting with a healthcare professional. They can perform a physical exam and run some tests to determine the cause of your missed period and any underlying health issues.

3. Address any underlying health issues. If you have any doubt that an infection or other underlying health issue is contributing to your symptoms, consider addressing these issues through lifestyle changes such as practicing good hygiene, avoiding tight-fitting clothing, and using over-the-counter medications such as antihistamines or anti-inflammatory drugs to manage any discomfort.

4. Take a pregnancy test. If you have not had your period for more than three weeks and are experiencing symptoms such as brown vaginal discharge or itching or swelling in the vagina, it may be worth taking a pregnancy test to confirm whether or not you are pregnant. If the test is positive, consult a healthcare professional to guide your pregnancy.

Please remember to always consult with a gynecologist if you have any concerns about your health or if your symptoms persist for an extended period.

I hope I have answered your questions.

Thank you.

Regards.
