Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 28 year old male and my partner is a 22 year old female. If I skipped using a condom during sex, what is the best option to avoid pregnancy? Also, please mention the side effects of the medicine.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
After unprotected sex, to avoid pregnancy, taking an emergency pill such as I-pill is the best method. I-pill 1.5 mg should be taken as early as possible after the act. It is an emergency contraceptive and is highly effective if taken within 12 hours, but it can be taken up to 72 hours after the act. The side effects are minimal which include a little abnormality in her next period. Otherwise, there are no other significant side effects. A word of caution though that, it is an emergency contraceptive pill and should be taken on an emergency basis only and not as a routine.
