Patient's Query
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I fully understand your concern and will surely help you.
To get pregnant, firstly, the sperms have to be released inside the vagina of the female. Secondly, these sperms then need to fertilize an egg which may or may not be available depending upon the ovulation pattern of the female. Thirdly the fertilised egg is required to be implanted in the uterus of the female.
So in simple language, for a high probability of pregnancy, the intercourse has to be unprotected (or contraceptive failure like condom rupture, etc.), as I understand you have had unprotected intercourse, so you fulfill the first condition. But now, since you had this intercourse in menses so, here I would like to tell you that the egg is not released during menses, but it is released in mid cycle, say around 12 to 20th day in your cycle, and this also happens in girls of young and reproductive age. Since you are now 42-years-old, so generally, even if an egg is released, it is not of very good quality. Further, the fertilization of the egg is dependent on the quality of sperm, so mere ejaculation may not necessarily lead to pregnancy.
Lastly, even if the egg is fertilized, the uterus is not suitable for fertilization of the egg, and hence you are generally safe. If your partner is also of your or more age and you have had sex in menses, there is almost 99 % chance that you are safe. However, if it is still less than 72 hours and you want to be safe, I suggest you taking an emergency contraceptive pill like Unwanted 72.
Feel free to ask any questions or to share any additional information. Do not worry. I am always there for you. God bless.
