What causes pain and bleeding while urination?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My period was almost over, but since the evening, I have been feeling pain in my lower abdomen. It hurts a lot when I pee, and there is a little blood too. The pain is getting worse now. It is 3:34 AM.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
According to your symptoms, this could be a sign of a urinary tract infection (UTI) or possibly something more serious, like a bladder or kidney infection, especially since you are experiencing chills, burning during urination, and lower abdominal pain. Your symptoms, including burning while peeing, lower abdominal discomfort, blood in urine, shivering or goosebumps, and a recent viral illness, suggest a few possibilities. The most likely diagnosis is a UTI, especially with the burning sensation and presence of blood. It could also be a bladder infection (cystitis) if the pain is concentrated in your lower belly or a kidney infection (pyelonephritis) if you also feel chills, fever, or overall weakness. Irritation from your period is another possibility, though it is less likely to cause blood in the urine or intense pain.
If the pain becomes unbearable, if you develop a fever or chills, or if there is a lot of blood in your urine, it is best to go to the emergency room or an urgent care center immediately. If the pain is still manageable, drink plenty of water to flush out your system, avoid caffeine and spicy foods, take a pain reliever like Paracetamol (if you are not allergic), and make sure not to hold in your urine. In the morning, see a doctor, either a general physician or a gynecologist, and ask for a urine test to check for a UTI. If necessary, they may prescribe antibiotics. Also, be sure to mention your recent viral infection, as it might be connected.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.
