What could be the reason for pelvis pain while lying down and frequent urge to urinate?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have pain in my pelvic region while lying down, especially during the night. I also require frequent bathroom breaks at night and feel tired. I did not have my periods for the last three months, and I am not sure if I have PCOS. Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

From the symptoms described, I presume that you have a urinary tract infection. Frequent urination at night (known as nocturia), pain while urinating (known as dysuria), as well as frequent urination during the day (known as polyuria), are the symptoms of a urinary tract infection. Other symptoms include an uncontrollable urge to urinate once your bladder is full and a sense that you have not fully emptied your bladder. 1. Have you noticed blood in your urine?

2. Is your urine frequent and very dilute? This could indicate that your kidneys need to be checked (although that is unlikely in this scenario).

I suggest the following investigations:

  1. Urinalysis and urine microscopy.

  2. Urine culture, and sensitivity test.

In addition, an electrolyte, urea, and creatinine test may be needed to assess kidney function. The treatment depends on the culture and sensitivity results.

I hope this information will help you. In case of further queries, please revert.

Thank you.
