Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

After my last sexual intercourse, I started having vaginal discharge with a foul smell. The discharge is light orange or gray with a bad smell. I believe I have an infection. What should I take?

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Firstly do not get stressed out, there may be multiple reasons for this, and all can be treated with medication or small precautions. Please help me with the following information for the correct identification of the underlying causes:

1. Was the intercourse protected or unprotected?

2. When was your last period, and when is your next due?

3. Are you experiencing any irritation or burning sensation in passing urine?

4. Do you have any other problems like tender breasts?

The possible diagnosis can be bacterial vaginosis or trichomoniasis. First, follow the simple undermentioned recommendations:

1. Use a gentle soap or only water to clean your vagina.

2. Do not clean it from the inside. Keep the area dry.

3. Wear loose cotton underwear.

4. Avoid intense exercise.

Feel free to ask additional questions or to share any further information. Please give updates on questions asked to help me pass the correct medication based on the proper diagnosis

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your response. Here are my answers:

1. I am on birth control pills, so intercourse was unprotected. But neither of us sees other people, and he is tested and clean.

2. Last period ended a week ago, and the next is planned to start the first week of next month.

3. No, there is no burn or irritation. It just had a foul smell; the discharge was light brownish orange, and now it is lighter.

No other issues and the breasts are fine. I want to note that I was a virgin until a little less than a month ago, and a few days ago was the second time I had intercourse. During the first intercourse, there was bleeding; for the second time, there was slight bleeding, followed by the smell and discharge. The discharge is not at a lot, but the odor is noticeable. I got my period in the duration between both times, and I got an examination with my gynecologist a few days after the first time (over three weeks ago), but there was no infection. I believe it is an infection, so it would be great to know how to deal with it. I use gentle vaginal wash and water to clean and keep it dry.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I suggest Metronidazole gel vaginal application once daily for seven days. Consult your specialist doctor, talk with them, and take medications with their consent. Feel free to ask any questions or to share any additional information.

Thank you.
