Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 20-year-old girl. I want to know the reasons for, and treatment of, a lack of vaginal discharge or arousal during intercourse.
Please advise.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
At your age, reduced vaginal discharge or a lack of arousal during intercourse is most often linked to a combination of physical, hormonal, and psychological factors. Physically, low estrogen levels, hormonal contraceptives, certain medications (such as antidepressants or antihistamines), dehydration, and vaginal infections can reduce natural lubrication.
Psychologically, stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or lack of emotional intimacy may interfere with arousal and natural vaginal wetness. In some cases, underlying health issues such as thyroid disorders, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), or other hormonal imbalances can also contribute.
Treatment depends on the underlying cause:
Since this is a persistent concern at a young age, I recommend visiting a gynecologist to check your hormone levels and rule out any medical conditions, so that you can receive a treatment plan tailored specifically to you.
I hope this helps you. Thank you.
