Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am very worried about this muscle protruding from my vagina when I pull it open. It is not visible when my vagina is in a resting state, but it is like a sheet of muscle in the middle of the vagina when I pull it open. It is also very sensitive to the touch; I do not recall seeing it before. I am 25 years old, and I had sex two weeks ago, and I am so worried about this abnormality.
Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I went through your query and understood your concern.
The protrusion you have mentioned could be a normal phenomenon or a vaginal prolapse or a polyp or a growth, or a small cervical fibroid. The cause could be due to a weak pelvic floor or some infection. A proper examination is required as these can result in complications in the future, like bleeding, pressure symptoms, pain, and difficulty in urinating. So please do not worry. You will be fine. However, I suggest you to consult a gynecologist for an internal examination. If it is a prolapse, you must start doing kegel or pelvic floor strengthening exercises. But if it is a polyp or fibroid, then surgical removal is required. Minor infections can be treated with antibiotics. Also, before seeing a gynecologist, try not to touch the area and do not insert anything inside the vagina.
I hope this answers your questions.
Kindly feel free to reach out with any further questions.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you so much for the reply.
It is quite odd because sometimes it recedes back in a way that I really have to pull open a lot to see it. Honestly, I have not noticed this because I do not usually shave. But I remember how obvious it was on two or three occasions that I saw it. May I ask if a certain wall or tissue could be seen if I ‘pry’ open my vagina enough? And also, what kind of infection could this result in? I do not have anyone to approach as of now, and I will try to make a visit to my local gynecologist if I can.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
The vagina is well supported by tissue circumferentially. The tissue separates it from the urethra bladder in front and the rectum behind. If this supportive tissue weakens, then prolapse occurs. So do not try to pull it, or else the prolapse will increase. Infections could be bacteria that usually grow on the raw surface of polyps, are transmitted sexually, or are self-grown.
I hope this helps.
Take care.
