Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Are weak vaginal muscles a side effect of excessive sex? I just want to know if weak vaginal muscles are related to excessive sex. Could too much frequency of copulation weaken the vagina? Kindly suggest.

Answered by Dr. Balakrishnan R

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

No, vaginal muscles do not weaken by having sex frequently. Possible causes for vaginal weakness are:

1. Repeated vaginal deliveries - if this is the cause you will need to have surgical correction of the vaginal opening and the perineal muscles.

2. Congenital weakness- also needs surgical correction.

3. Around the age of menopause, when the female hormone, estrogen support - can be corrected with local application of the estrogen cream into the vagina at night for three to six months.

All these methods along with pelvic floor exercise, mean holding the muscles around the vaginal opening tight as if you want to avoid passing urine before you reach the washroom. Hold it tight till the muscles ache. Do it whenever possible at least five to ten times a day.

I hope I have been of help to you.

Thank you.
