Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Vitamin B12 deficiency can arise in vegans who do not take supplements or due to an absorption issue. Anemia occurs, resulting in paleness, weakness, weariness, and, in severe cases, shortness of breath and disorientation. A severe vitamin B12 deficiency can cause nerve damage, including tingling or loss of sensation in the hands and feet, muscle weakness, reflex loss, difficulty walking, disorientation, and dementia. Vitamin B12 deficiency is diagnosed using blood testing. Anemia symptoms typically improve when high doses of vitamin B12 pills are taken. Symptoms due to nerve damage and dementia in older people may persist.
Vitamin B12 (cobalamin), with folate, is necessary for the formation and maturation of red blood cells and the synthesis of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid), which is the genetic material of cells. Vitamin B12 is also necessary for normal nerve function. Good sources of vitamin B12 include meats (especially beef, pork, liver, and other organ meats), eggs, fortified cereals, milk, clams, oysters, salmon, and tuna.
