What are the treatments for vitamin D?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been diagnosed with Vitamin D deficiency. What food should I take, and what are the steps to overcome this deficiency? I lump my left side breast and also have joint pains, even in my fingers. I am not able to carry even one pound of weight in my hands and it is paining a lot. Even the elbow joints are paining after carrying weight. I want to know whether these symptoms are due to vitamin D deficiency. I am 35 years old and what steps can help me to cure my symptoms? My mother has Rheumatoid arthritis, am I prone to get that in my lifetime?

Thank you

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I just read your query. I can understand your concern.

Mostly your body pain is due to vitamin D deficiency. but you need to further investigate the cause of vitamin D deficiency. That can be due to gut absorbing issues kidney problems or para thyroid problems. So you need to do investigations as bellow.

Serum ionized calcium level, X-ray of the skull, femur, pelvis, chest, and limbo sacral spine, Serum creatine, serum phosphate, serum electrolytes, and blood urea.

You may start calcium supplements as follows,

Calcium-Lactate one tablet twice a day initially otherwise, you can start calcium tablets which also contain vitamin D. Vitamin D injection 1000 IU every other day for one week, and Kalsana one tablet twice a day.

I hope that you got your answer.

Please let me know if you want some help.

Thank you.
