Is dose elevation of Warfarin recommended if the INR is 2?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I take the tablet Warfarin 15 mg daily, but my INR is still below 2. And my doctor advises me to stay on 15 mg of tablet Warfarin for three more months. What is your opinion on this?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Your symptoms are most likely due to Warfarin resistance which causes low INR (international normalized ratio), although the dose of Warfarin is high.

The possible causes are hereditary or acquired by eating food rich in vitamin K and using medications with Warfarin.

Please provide me with more details to reach the appropriate diagnosis:

  1. Do you take other medications?
  2. Do you eat too many green leafy vegetables?

I suggest Increasing the dose to 16 mg per day. However, please consult a specialist doctor, discuss with them and start taking the medications with their consent.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.
