Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am taking warfarin, and my INR is 2.8. I am a woman, and I am a virgin, I never had complete sexual intercourse involving penetration. My question is if I have my first complete sexual intercourse and lose my virginity while on warfarin, could it be dangerous and cause a hemorrhage?

Hello,

Welcome to the icliniq.com.

Usually for thrombotic events, warfarin like anticoagulant drug prescribed with INR monitoring. Duration of therapy can be up to six months (only it is a risk if thrombosis high then life long anticoagulant is given). So for this six month while on warfarin you can delay intercourse if possible.

The risk of bleeding depends on the following factors that are based on clinical correlation.

1. Smoking history.

2. Abnormal liver function and renal function.

3. CBC (for detecting anemia).

4. History of bleeding and stroke.

5. Recent Myocardial infarction.

6. Old age (greater than 65 years).

INR motoring regularly needed for not crossing INR (International normalized ratio) above three. Consult a physician for examination and clinical correlation for assessment of risk bleeding. I hope your concern is solved.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
