Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My son is completing 2 years in a few days. And I recently noticed he had watery eyes when he watches TV or laptop, and it occurs every time he watches them. He also has redness of eyes right from birth, but when he is exposed to cold weather, he is normal. Also, he does not eat anything healthy and likes to eat chocolates, cold drinks, and biscuits. What to do?

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

I have a few suggestions,

1. Excess exposure to screens (television, laptop, and mobile phones) can cause watery eyes. This is a rising problem in children.

2. He needs to be educated on the ill effects of over-screen usage. Encourage him to play outdoors, involving traditional games.

3. Dry eyes can also cause watering.

4. Regarding eating habits, there is no "quick fix remedy," and you need to keep trying healthy food options with a reward approach. Punishment does not help.

5. Make sure his hemoglobin levels are normal, as low hemoglobin levels can lead to anemia and can cause a decrease in appetite.

6. I suggest you to deworm him with syrup Bandy Plus (Albendazole and Ivermectin) 2.5 ml once a week every six months. Worm infestation is known to cause decreased appetite.

7. I also suggest you to try giving syrup Aptizoom (natural appetite stimulant) 3 ml once a day. But it is a temporary option. Trying a variety of homemade food is always better.

8. Kindly consult an ophthalmologist and inquire about the need for spectacle due to refractive error.

Kindly consult a specialist, talk with them and take the medications with their consent.

Kindly follow up after two days.

I hope this was helpful.

Take care.
