How to lose weight with hypothyroidism and PCOS?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have hypothyroidism and PCOS, and I am struggling to lose weight. I am taking Levothyroxine and Metformin, going to the gym, and following a diet, but I still weigh 134.5 pounds. Can you suggest any adjustments or explain why my weight is not changing despite my efforts?

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern.

Weight loss can be challenging with hypothyroidism and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Despite taking Levothyroxine and Metformin, hormonal imbalances and insulin resistance can hinder progress. Ensure your thyroid levels are well-controlled, and consider consulting a dietitian specializing in PCOS for personalized advice. Aldactone (Spironolactone) can sometimes cause weight gain, so discuss this with your healthcare provider. Consistency and patience are key, as weight loss can be slow with these conditions.

Please let us know if you have any further queries. We would be happy to answer.

Thank you.
