Should high calorie food be curbed after sleeve gastrectomy?

Hello doctor,

My 19-year-old son had a sleeve gastrectomy operation as he was overweight (he was over 110 kilograms) a few months before. His current weight is 85 kilograms, and according to his doctor, he must lose around eight more kilograms to be in the normal range. My son follows a strict diet (no bread, sugary gaseous drinks, etc.). Can my son resume taking these restricted food items once he returns to his normal weight and starts taking an ordinary diet?

Kindly help.

I understand your concern. Your son may need to restrict the intake of such high sugary and high-calorie foods throughout his life. This does not mean that he will not eat these types of food anymore, but he will have to take them in small amounts to keep his weight at an optimal limit. If he has undergone genetic testing for food intolerance, it means that these types of food are not well tolerated by his body, and he needs to take them rarely and in small amounts.
