What causes an increased in WBC and platelet counts after a heart attack?

Hello doctor,
I have a history of hypertension and diabetes. I am here for a regular check-up. I also had a heart attack a month ago, and I am on complete prophylaxis medication such as antiplatelets, antihypertensives, and antidiabetics. I am on medications like ACE inhibitors, beta-blockers, and Atorvastatin. I have also undergone an ECHO, ECG, and blood test. My hemoglobin level was 20 g/dL on a recent complete blood count. Please tell me what to do next if my WBC count is 30000 mm3 and my platelet count is 900,000 per microliter of blood.

I am giving you my suggestion regarding your case. I reviewed your attached report, and it clearly shows a high WBC (white blood cell) count, a high platelet count, and a high HB (hemoglobin). However, a peripheral smear examination report reveals no premature cells. As a result chance of leukemia that is myeloproliferative neoplasm appears to be lower. The cause of such elevated values could be secondary polycythemia, as in the case of myocardial infarction. Continue taking myocardial infarction medication as prescribed. Repeat your CBC (complete blood count) with peripheral smear examination again after a few days to check whether values are improving or deteriorating.
