Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had protected sex on the 12th day of my menstrual cycle, but the condom broke. It only contained precum, and I am unsure if it tore inside. Therefore, I took an I-pill within eight hours. When is the expected time to get periods if I have a regular 28 to 30 days menstrual cycle? It happened yesterday, and I have not felt anything except weakness. Is it possible to have withdrawal bleeding? What does withdrawal bleeding indicate? How will it know if it is a menstruation cycle? Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read the query, and I can understand your concern.

Withdrawal bleeding is only a side effect of the I-pill (Levonorgestrel). It happens due to the sudden withdrawal of hormones from your body, so it does not necessarily happen to everyone. You may have menstrual irregularities, which could be due to hormonal imbalances caused by the I-pill. Therefore, it is a little unpredictable when you will receive your next period. You can get it on time or with a seven to ten-day delay. As you took the I-pill within 24 hours, there is almost no chance of pregnancy in your case.

I hope this will help you.

Thank you.
