## How is VO2 Max calculated?

The VO2 Max is estimated using the formula given below. Of note is the fact that the heart rate is calculated immediately after the fast one-mile walk is completed. VO2 Max is computed using the Rockport Fitness Walking Test.

VO2 Max = 132.853 - (0.0769 * weight in pounds) - (0.3877 * age) + (6.315 * gender) - (3.2649 * duration in minutes) - (0.1565 * heart rate)

The application of the formula involves computation of seven components. The first component is the multiplcation of weight in pounds with 0.0769. The second component is the multiplcation of age with 0.3877. The third component is the multiplication of gender of the person with 6.315, where gender is 1 for males and 0.85 for females . The fourth component is got by the multiplication of duration in minutes by 3.2649. The fifth component is achieved by the multiplication of heart rate with 0.1565. The sixth component is arrived at by subtracting the second component from the first component and that answer being subtracted from 132.853. The seventh component is computed by subtracting the fifth component from the fourth component and the resultant being subtracted from the third component. Finally, the sixth and the seventh components are added to provide the VO2 Max.
