Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a skin concern to discuss with you. There is a bit of a scabies situation going on in the childcare centers around here. Now, my little ones, aged three and five, have started showing some skin rashes, and you know how it goes, every worried parent's nightmare. I have been doing a bit of reading, and scabies seems to be the buzzword. I have read about the mites and the itching, but I would love your input. How serious is this, especially for young kids? Are there any specific signs I should watch out for, and what is the best way to tackle it? Also, are there any preventative measures we can take at home? I would rather be safe than sorry. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

I am glad you chose icliniq for your medical-related queries.

I can understand your concerns.

The treatment for scabies is Permethrin 5 percent cream. It has to be applied from the neck down on the whole body in the case of adults. In children, you need to apply a bit on the cheeks too. Apply and leave it overnight. The next morning, take a bath. Make sure that the cream does not enter the mouth. Now, treatment is advised not just for the person showing the symptoms but for all close contacts. This includes everyone in the childcare center and all your family members in the same house as well.
