Inflammation of the tissue lining the sinus is called sinusitis. In Ayurveda, it is believed to occur due to Dushta Pratishyaya, were the primary dosha affected is Kapha. When sinusitis aggravates, it affects the Pana Vata in the respiratory tract. Ayurvedic management of sinusitis is done with the help of Panchakarma, herbal medicines, dietary changes, and lifestyle modification. Depending on the dosha predominance and severity, therapies like Nasyam, Lepanam, Vamanam, and Shirodhara are commonly used. Amongst these therapies, Nasyam is highly successful in treating sinusitis. Here, to clear the accumulated Kapha, herbal oil or powder is administered through the nostrils.
