What is the reason for severe upper back and shoulder pain?

Hi doctor,

I am a 32 year old male, and I have a terrible upper back and left shoulder pain from past two years. The pain is radiating to the left side of the chest also. Whenever I move my neck, I hear some sound. With this pain, I feel drowsy and light-headed full day. I am not able to do routine work or sit still for a long time. I feel as if I am going to fall, so I keep moving my legs and body in the chair at the office. Even when I am lying on the bed, I feel as if I am going to faint. Whenever I feel drowsy, I feel that my heartbeat has stopped. From the past five days, the symptoms are becoming severe. I got an MRI of the neck two years back, which was normal. I have elevated cholesterol levels, and my triglycerides are around 400. My ECG was normal, but during an echocardiogram, the doctor said that there is a hole in the heart. Because of this extreme pain, I am not able to concentrate on my routine work, as I feel drowsy throughout the day. I do not have any pressure at home or work. Only because of this pain, I am very worried. I have consulted many doctors, but they give me some painkillers, which does not help relieve the pain. What should I do now?

How to manage swelling after ACL reconstruction surgery?

Hello doctor,

I had ACL reconstruction surgery on my right knee for five years. At the same time, the medial meniscus was completely repaired and the lateral meniscus was partially repaired. After some time doctor opened my bandage and the knee healed nicely. I had been advised to do some physical exercise (such as extension, flexion, etc.) and I was doing the same correctly for up to nine days. But unfortunately, my knee started swelling, and the doctor advised me not to do any physical exercise and did some medical examination. As appeared from the report, there was no infection found from culture and sensitivity tests of fluid. Although it is found that my ESR was a little high, that is 40, and C -Reactive protein was 14.5. However, the latest medical examination revealed that ESR is 35, and C-Reactive protein is 2.5. The doctor advised me some antibiotics (Ciprofloxacin and Flucloxacillin), and I took the same. It has seven weeks have passed. Still, there is swelling in my knee, and I could not do any exercise. Now, I feel stiffness and move with the assistance of an elbow stick. My daily activities are hampering me a lot, and I am getting frustrated day by day. Therefore, I would earnestly request you to advise me on proper medications so that I can get back to daily life properly.

What are the methods to treat back pain?

Hello doctor,

I have been experiencing upper back pain, specifically in my spine, for over two months. I am not sure what caused it, but it hurts when I bend forward and settle when I am still. When pressure is applied to a particular spot on the spine, there is a sharp pain, then the pain is dull for a few minutes before going away, but it still hurts with movement. All stomach-related blood tests, such as H.pylori, came out negative. I am seeing a physiotherapist, but it is not helping, and my doctor has not advised me to do an MRI.

Kindly help.

How to use pool noodles to improve sleep?

Hello doctor,

Is it a bad idea to sleep with a pool noodle along your spine? I am trying to work on my posture since I am getting arm pains. I am doing lots of stretching, exercises, and foam rolling. The foam rolling made me think about sleeping on something similar to get extra benefit. A pool noodle is softer, can be cut to any size and can even be taped to a T-shirt so it does not roll around. I could then offset my neck by just using a thicker pillow. I am not too sure about the lower back area, perhaps another pillow or I can taper the edge of the noodle? I thought I would ask a professional before I went out and did something possibly very silly.
