What does diffuse hepatic steatosis indicate?

Hello doctor,

I had discomfort recently in my right upper rear torso. I recently had an ultrasound and a CAT scan. The results covered a variety of body parts. But I am interested in speaking to a liver specialist regarding what the results said about my liver. I would like a doctor to explain to me what these results mean.

My recent ultrasound showed: Measures 12 cm. Liver shows coarsened echotexture and increased echogenicity. No liver masses identified. CAT scan showed: Liver: Diffuse hepatic steatosis. Indeterminant subcapsular posterior right hepatic lobe 13 x 9 mm hypoattenuation segment 7.

What are the non-alcoholic causes of fatty liver?

Hi doctor,

As advised by a family doctor, I did an LFT, and the result was AST 59.5 U/L, ALT 99.8 U/L, and GGT 65.5 U/L. Also, I did a sonography to check if the liver was fatty. Sonography revealed fatty liver grade 1. As per my doctor, elevated AST and ALT levels can be attributed to fatty liver. Nothing suggests liver damage due to alcohol. Myself is more of a casual drinker. Please advise whether the AST and ALT values observed could be attributed to casual alcohol consumption.

Thank you.

There is enlarged liver in anemic and hypothyroidism patient. Is it serious?

Hello doctor,

I had my mother's ultrasound done today. She is a 39-year-old anemia patient admitted to the hospital. She has hypothyroidism from the last 12 years and is overweight and obese. Her ultrasound shows 7.4 inches liver from the mid-clavicular line with increased echogenicity. Is this something of concern? If yes then what has to be done?
