Can I get a medical abortion for unwanted pregnancy?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello,

I had unprotected sex on the 29th of last month and took an emergency contraceptive pill on the same day as a precaution. My period tracker said my ovulation date was the 3rd of this month. I had my last periods from 20th to 23rd last month. And I was supposed to get periods on the 20th of this month. I am now six to seven days late for my periods, and I am worried. Please help, doctor.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Sometimes the delay may be due to mere anxiety. I suggest you take a urine pregnancy test that is commercially available in the pharmacy and relax.

If you are still not getting periods within two days, we can go for menstruation-inducing agents.

You can contact me for further queries.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I took a pregnancy test and got a dark pink line at C and a faint pink line at T, which I am guessing means that I am pregnant. However, I do not want to get pregnant at all. I know there are abortion pill kits available on prescription, so can that be done?

Answered by Dr. Pandian. P

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

You are right. The faint line on the pregnancy test suggests that you are pregnant. If you do not wish to get pregnant, you can go for abortion pills immediately.

I wish you a speedy recovery. Take care.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Can you give me a prescription for abortion pills?

Answered by Dr. Pandian. P

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

You need to take an MTP kit (medical termination of pregnancy). The abortion kit contains drugs like Mifepristone with Misoprostol. But these are prescription drugs, and you can not buy them as OTC (over-the-counter) drugs. So I suggest you consult your gynecologist for the prescription and have a safe abortion.

Thank you.
