Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am considering my options, and I have questions about abortion. What are the different types of abortion procedures available, and how do they work? Can you provide information on the potential risks and side effects of each method? Additionally, I am curious about the emotional and physical recovery process after an abortion.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query, and I can understand your concern.

There are two types of abortion procedures available. The first one is a medical abortion in which medicine or tablets are administered over 48 hours, leading to subsequent bleeding for almost five to seven days, resulting in the spontaneous evacuation of the entire uterus. The second procedure is a surgical one, involving dilatation and evacuation of the uterine cavity. This procedure is performed in a hospital by a trained gynecologist under anesthesia. There is typically bleeding for one to two days.

The medical abortion is performed within 50 days from the time of conception, and there is a chance of increased or heavy bleeding, which may necessitate a blood transfusion or immediate attention by a gynecologist. The notable aspect of the procedure is that there is no need for anesthesia or admission to a hospital setup. The second procedure, the surgical one, is a simple process that allows you to leave the hospital on the same day. While there is very slight bleeding, there is a chance of infection since it is an internal procedure. Therefore, a course of antibiotics is prescribed.

I hope your queries are resolved, and any further queries are welcome.

Thank you.
