Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had my last menstrual period two months back. The following month, I missed my period and I used the MTP kit, which caused heavy bleeding and the passage of blood clots for ten days. I continued to experience symptoms throughout the month, and when I conducted a home pregnancy test at the beginning of this month, it still showed a positive result. I have been feeling pain in the lower right abdomen and discomfort in my breasts.

My concern is whether the abortion was successful and when I can expect the symptoms to subside if it was. If the abortion is incomplete, could you recommend any medications or treatments that I can use at home? Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Medical abortions, like the one conducted with a Mifepristone and Misoprostol (MTP) kit, should always be overseen by a healthcare professional to ensure the procedure's safety and effectiveness. If you are still experiencing ongoing symptoms or have concerns following the use of the MTP kit, I would suggest you to seek medical attention immediately.

A pregnancy test can remain positive for weeks after an abortion until the levels of beta hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) return to a normal range. To determine the cause of the positive pregnancy test, you may consider obtaining a complete abdominal ultrasound. This ultrasound can help identify the underlying reason for the positive pregnancy test. If the ultrasound results are clear and do not indicate any retained products of conception, you may not be pregnant anymore.

Hope this information helps you.

Thank you.
