Can Nystatin cause any cardiac issues?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My father had a valve replacement last year and is currently taking Acenocoumarol. He was recently prescribed Nystatin for oral candidiasis. He would like to know if swallowing it, or accidentally swallowing a small amount, could interact with his medication or cause any cardiac or valve issues.

Please advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com,

I have carefully reviewed your concern and would like to explain that Acenocoumarol and Nystatin do not show any adverse interactions when taken together. Nystatin, when taken orally, has poor intestinal absorption and is unlikely to reach the bloodstream in sufficient amounts to interact or cause adverse effects. No cardiac issues will arise from this.

I hope this clarifies your concern.

Thank you.
