How to heal the old acne scars and prevent the eruption of new acne on my cheeks?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 36-year-old female with acne scars on both my cheeks. For many years, one or two acne erupted every month, leaving scars behind. I have been following a suitable regime for the last year. However, the acne still erupts, though less frequently, but they still leave behind scars. In my routine, I use a mild face wash, a Salicylic acid serum, moisturizer, and sunscreen. Please let me know how can I stop new acne from coming? How can I heal old scars and new scars immediately after they erupt? Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern. I suggest you follow these measures. (Consult a specialist doctor, talk with them and take medications with their consent.) Apply Adapalene 0.1 percent gel at night on whiteheads for 15 days. Wash face with a gentle face wash twice daily for 20 days. Take Antioxidant tablets once daily after food for 30 Days. Take a Vitamin C tablet of 500 mg once a day after breakfast for 30 days. Apply Photostable sunscreen from morning to evening daily for two months. Apply gentle moisturizing cream 30 minutes before applying sunscreen twice daily. For scars, subsection, derma roller, or laser resurfacing can be considered as treatment options. Avoid popping or pricking or scratching, or rubbing pimples. Eat a healthy food rich in vitamins A, C, E, and iron. Drink lots of water daily. Moisturize skin daily immediately after bath. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your response. Can you suggest any other creams available in the market for acne scars? Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You can apply Kojic acid containing skin lightening creams on hyperpigmented scar marks at night for 20 days. For a complete cure, you may need laser resurfacing or a derma filler. (Consult a specialist doctor, talk with them and take medications with their consent.) Thank you.
