How do I treat painful acne under my cheeks that resist treatment?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have had acne for five years and am struggling to find any cure. I have tried every product I can think of. My spots are primarily on my cheeks under the skin and are very painful. Do you know of anything that could help?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. Pimple is somewhat hormonal and due to oily skin. Do not use hair oil and any sticky cream on the face. Avoid oily food, chocolate, and milk products. Avoid dust; use sunscreen above 30 SPF (sun protection factor). Any cream, do not rub it on the face. Do not use any steroid creams. Continue treatment for at least one month. Facewash or soap is not a treatment and is not much useful. Do not touch acne, and avoid pressing it. I suggest using Clindamycin gel which is more preventive and curative, so I tell patients to use it all over their faces in the morning. Adapalene gel can be used over acne at night. Take Tablet Doxycycline 100 mg once a day. I hope you find it helpful. Kind regards.
