Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 27-year-old female. I have been experiencing pain and swelling in my knees and lower legs, along with red spots starting from my upper thighs downward. I work standing for eight hours a day, and I am wondering if that could be the cause.
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
Thank you for reaching out and providing detailed information about your symptoms.
Based on your description of pain and swelling in the knees and lower legs, along with red spots spreading from the upper thighs downward, several possible causes should be considered. Prolonged standing for eight hours daily can contribute to venous insufficiency or increased pressure in the lower limbs, which might explain the swelling and discomfort. However, the presence of red spots suggests there could also be an underlying inflammatory, vascular, or dermatological condition.
Some possibilities include venous stasis dermatitis or varicose veins, often related to long hours of standing; allergic or irritant reactions, possibly linked to clothing, footwear, or environmental exposures; inflammatory or autoimmune conditions (such as vasculitis), especially if the red spots are painful or spreading; and infectious causes, though these are less likely without fever or systemic symptoms.
I recommend that you consult a physician in person for a thorough clinical examination. Blood tests and possibly a Doppler ultrasound of the legs may be necessary to assess circulation.
In the meantime, try to elevate your legs during rest, wear compression stockings if available, avoid standing in one position for too long by shifting your weight and taking seated breaks if possible, and monitor for any spreading of the red spots, increased pain, fever, or any new symptoms. Your symptoms deserve proper attention, and early intervention can help prevent complications.
I hope this helps.
Take care.
