Why do post-angioplasty medications cause sickness?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My father underwent an angioplasty two months ago. The medication provided makes him unwell and there is a loss of appetite. We need proper medical advice.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have reviewed the detailed query and the attached picture (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity). I have also reviewed the medications the patient is taking. None of the medications appear to be unnecessary; all seem to be essential for the patient, which is why the physician has prescribed them. Feeling unwell and experiencing a loss of appetite can have many causes, and the heart condition could be one of them. Certain medications may also have side effects, such as a loss of appetite or feeling sick. The patient's age and recent angioplasty likely contribute to these symptoms.

Based on the limited information provided, I do not see an immediate need to change any medications. However, I do not have full knowledge of the patient's past medical history, recent health issues aside from the heart, or the status of the kidneys, liver, and lungs. Any changes to the medication regimen should be made with a comprehensive understanding of the patient's overall health.

I recommend regularly monitoring the patient’s blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and other routine blood work. A follow-up with their cardiologist in a couple of weeks is advisable. This post-angioplasty visit will help ensure everything is progressing well. The cardiologist will likely perform an echocardiogram, EKG (electrocardiogram), and other heart tests to confirm everything is as expected.

I hope this information is helpful.

Please feel free to ask if you need further assistance.

Thank you.
