Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a terrible habit of never saying 'no' to any requests that would come my way. Also, I do not have the habit of asking for help when I have a problem and I feel like I should handle all problems by myself. I am also committed to giving a great life to my family especially my husband and my kids and do not let them feel like they are encountering issues specifically financially. Shortly after my marriage, I was not that open to my husband about our finances which led me to having a really bad debt. Now that I am on the verge of not fulfilling any of my money matters, I am having really bad panic attacks. I would have cold feet, my muscles in my body would pain and my heart would pound so fast. I also have very little sleep because I think that one day the creditor will come to my home. My mom was also like me and we ended up being in a bad debt. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I am here to help you with your health queries.

I am glad that you got help from a psychiatrist. I can understand your situation. You have to learn to say 'no'. You must share your issues like finances with your family. Family is not just having a few people, but it involves emotional bonding and helping each other. You may have anxiety disorder and it can be managed non-pharmacologically. I suggest you follow the below guidelines to deal with it:

  1. You should exercise daily for 30 to 45 minutes like at least going for a walk.
  2. You should do meditation for 20 minutes daily. Just sit in one place in a comfortable position and try to concentrate on your normal breathing. Do not stop or force yourself to stop your thoughts. Just let it be.
  3. You should eat healthy home-cooked foods and avoid junk foods.
  4. You must drink enough water.
  5. You should spend quality time with friends and family members daily.
  6. You should spend time doing creative hobbies like reading good books, writing journals, painting, drawing, and learning new skills or language or musical instruments.
  7. You should sleep for seven to eight hours daily.
  8. You must avoid tobacco usage, alcohol consumption, or any type of substance abuse.

Live your life. Do not just spend it. Be bold and confident. If you still have symptoms that persist after following the above-mentioned advice for four to six weeks, then you need to start medications for a short duration.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Investigations to be done

I suggest you do a complete blood count (CBC), thyroid profile test, and check the levels of vitamin B12 and vitamin D3.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
