Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I was diagnosed with depression and separation anxiety when I was 16 years old and was on anxiety medication. I am now 18 years old, but lately, my symptoms have worsened, and my behavior has changed. I am taking medicines for depression, but still, my outlook on life has become negative. I constantly have mood swings, one minute I am happy, and the next minute, I am sad. I have lost interest in activities. I do not want to be around people, and I constantly feel guilty, like I am not good enough. I recently got into a drug habit, so I can stop feeling this way. I have a phobia about hospitals. I have had it since I was super young. I also dream about sex. I constantly feel stressed and tired and lack energy. I took a test online, and it said I could have bipolar or other personality disorder. I really want to know what is wrong with me.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query, and I can understand your concern.

Your description matches a depressive disorder or early manifestation of schizoaffective disorder. However, further evaluation is needed for proper diagnosis. I would suggest you undergo a thyroid profile test from any recognized laboratory. Medications and psychotherapy are also necessary for treatment. Additionally, I would suggest the following:

  1. Meditating daily for at least half an hour in the morning will help.

  2. Share your feelings with family or close friends as it helps.

  3. Maintain a journal and daily write down your thoughts, retrospect, and try to change certain habits.

  4. Routinely exercise and take a balanced diet rich in antioxidants and omega fatty acids.

  5. Performing aerobic exercises for at least half an hour thrice a week is useful.

  6. Refrain from substance use and avoid caffeinated drinks.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.

Investigations to be done

I suggest you undergo psychological testing and TFT (thyroid function test).

Differential diagnosis

The differential diagnosis for your condition is MDD (major depressive disorder), BPD (borderline personality disorder), and schizoaffective disorder.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
