How to manage stress-induced appetite?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My friend has not been eating much all week after her break-up, and today I am over at her house, and she has eaten one bagel, half a hamburger, a couple of candies, and caffeine. I believe she was running on candy and caffeine today, as she was hyperventilating, but then she crashed and burned, and she is tired now and barely had any sleep the night before (four hours of sleep), and she has not been eating a proper amount of food.

However, although she has not eaten a lot of food this week, her stomach is making growling noises. It could be peristalsis, where your digestive system contracts and mixes foods in the stomach with the liquids and digestive juices, and they get squeezed and create noises. Her boyfriend who she recently had a break up with and got back together with is saying she is not hungry, but I am worried for her.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

It is a response to her grief, and she had anorexia because of that. It leads to excessive acid production and gastritis, because of which she is having those symptoms. The first thing she will need is mental support and counseling. She should be engaged in some other activities and try to forget this event.

Secondly, she should receive some antacids for a week or three to four days at least, like capsule Pan DSR (Pantoprazole) 40 mg before breakfast once a day. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her, and take the medicines with their consent. This is to reduce acidity and gastritis, sounds, and bring back her appetite.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
