Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 45 and a massage therapist of 18 years, but lately, I can barely squeeze a tube of toothpaste. My hands and feet feel like they are filled with broken glass, and I have severe morning stiffness that lasts for about four hours. Recent bloodwork showed an RF of 172, ESR of 48, and CRP of 22. An MRI showed synovitis and early erosions. I have also lost 12 pounds over the last four months and feel constantly fatigued. My fingers are visibly bending sideways, and it has become difficult to perform my job and care for clients. Despite being prescribed medication, I have not seen much improvement, and the symptoms seem to be worsening.
What could be the cause of this?
What treatments or therapies might help me regain strength and mobility?
I am open to suggestions, including diet changes or physical therapy to improve my quality of life.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have read your query and can understand your concern.
Physiotherapy is a great method to choose for arthritis conditions.
The sessions include-
Mobilization.
Manipulation.
Passive manual traction.
Electrotherapy.
Tips:
The therapist will customize the program according to the condition and will include a variety if needed.
Along with medications, lifestyle modification is also needed.
Regular physical activity daily starting with non-weight bearing low-intensity workouts is advisable.
Daily twice exercises with a moist pack are good for better results.
As the condition improves, resistive activities can be included with higher repetitions and low intensity and vice versa.
The diet also plays an important role in preventing arthritis.
A good amount of vitamin D and calcium-rich food items can be added to the meal for inner strength and foods rich in fiber, less carbohydrates, less fat and more protein can help reduce the symptoms.
Hydration is yet another means of keeping the muscles fatigue-free and less tired.
I hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thank you.
