Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
My baby is 4 months old, and she has been suffering from diarrhea for the past two weeks. The doctor prescribed the syrups, Mintonia and Verispore for the same. So please tell me which is the best medicine for diarrhea.
Please answer.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I went through your query and understood your concern.
At this age, loose motion requires no medication unless the baby is severely dehydrated, not taking enough feed, or not passing urine. The baby passing stool eight times a day is a normal physiological process. And, I advise my patients to breastfeed and allow the baby to burp properly in these circumstances. So I suggest you to continue giving the syrup Mintonia (immunity enhancer), which has Zinc Acetate. Kindly do not try to stop the loose motion by giving multiple medications, which can harm the baby. I do not have any experience with Verispore (Bacillus clausii spore suspension). So I do not suggest giving it. However, is there any perianal rash?
In addition, you should be worried about loose motion at this age if the baby exhibits symptoms like irritability, not taking enough feed, not passing urine, being dehydrated, etc. Also, you should be worried if there is perianal rash and vomiting despite proper burping. If none of these conditions are there, then there is no need to worry. So, continue breastfeeding (except for lactose intolerance), and the loose motion shall resolve over time.
I hope this has helped you out.
Take care.
