This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am suffering from penile infection/balanitis for almost three months. This is occurring every week once or twice but it is disappearing after two to three days and coming back again. Initially, my symptoms were:

  1. Itching.
  2. Redness around the head of the penis.
  3. Swelling under the foreskin, and around the penile head.
  4. Small red tips on the head of the penis.
  5. Burning sensation.
  6. White/thick fluid discharge.
  7. Little discomfort during urination.

But now, along with these, I am experiencing pain and more burning sensation. Please suggest some medication to get rid of this disease.

Hi,

I am glad you chose icliniq for your medical-related queries.

I understand your concern and will try to help you with it.

From your description, you are suffering from balanitis. It can be due to irritation from soap or other products that you are using to wash that area, or it can be due to a fungal infection. I would like you to check your blood sugar. Discontinue the use of soap and other perfumed products, wash the area with warm water and keep dry. I suggest using Clotrimazole solution every night daily at bedtime. Follow up in two weeks.

Thank you for consulting me.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Please help me in getting more details, if possible, Is this dangerous and related to sugar level? I am planning to get married soon so should I need to postpone my marriage for some time till this is gone. Your response would be more helpful for me.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read and understand your concern.

I can understand your anxiety regarding this problem. The balanitis may be due to allergic reaction to an irritant. It may be any product you are using to wash the area. Avoid all those and use warm water only. keep the area dry and avoid tight clothes also. It will subside itself. Use clotrimazole solution daily. Get urine microscopy and culture to rule out urinary infection and blood test for sexually transmitted infections like Chlamydia and gonorrhea, if you think you have any risk of getting an infection. If all STD (sexually transmitted disease) results are negative, there is no risk for a married life. Balanitis is not sexually transmitted. Take Doxycycline 100 mg twice daily for 7 days. Follow up with results.

Looking forward to your response in order to help you.

Thank you.
