Patient's Query

Hello,

I had unprotected sex recently, and after that, some white marks and an open wound appeared under the penis head. I am a diabetic and currently under medication for the same. Is this a fungal infection or genital warts? I have attached some photos. Please have a look and let me know.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern. I saw the pictures (attachment removed to protect the patient’s identity) and suggest it is balanitis (inflammation of the foreskin and head of the penis). The cause can be a fungal infection. I suggest you follow these points. You must apply Candid cream (Clotrimazole) twice daily in the morning and night for three weeks. You must apply Fucidin cream (Fusidic Acid) to the wound lesion and the inflammatory lesion once daily for seven days. You must wash the area with Episoft cleanser (Purified Water, Cetearyl Alcohol, 1, 3 Butylene Glycol, Maltooligosyl Glucoside, Hydrogenated Starch Hydrolysate, Cetostearyl Alcohol, Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate, Phenova, Acrylic Acid/C10-C30 Alkyl Acrylate Copolymers, Triethanolamine) or No soap cleanser daily. You must maintain good genital hygiene. In addition, it would be best to keep the area moisture free to avoid fungal infections. You must avoid scratching and rubbing lesions. You must wear loose, comfortable thin cotton inners. You must maintain sugar levels under control. You must avoid occlusion or friction. You must practice safe sex using barriers. Take Tablet Fluconazole 150 mg once a week (after food) for three weeks. Take Tablet Levocetirizine 5 mg at night (after food) for seven days for itching. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Are you sure that it is not genital warts?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. Do not worry. These are not genital warts. Instead, it is balanitis (inflammation of the foreskin and head of the penis). It will take about three to four weeks to heal. Is it tender, itchy, or painful? Regards. Thank you.
