Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My father was just diagnosed with bile duct cancer and has been administered Imfinzi 500 mg. I am concerned about the efficacy of the treatment. Could you possibly share additional information about Imfinzi's efficacy in treating bile duct cancer? What are the chances of success or consequences from this drug associated with his situation? He was also given additional pills, but I just recall this one. I also read on the internet about its negative effects, which included pain while urinating, nausea, joint problems, and many more. I love my father and am concerned about the pain that he is experiencing.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Bile duct cancer is one of the most aggressive forms of cancer. Imfinizi, along with other chemotherapy drugs, has shown advantages over chemotherapy alone.

In a clinical trial, combining Imfinzi (Durvalumab) with chemotherapy increased the time individuals were alive after commencing treatment by a median of roughly 6 weeks as compared to persons who got chemotherapy with a placebo. In the experiment, around 25 % of patients who received chemotherapy with Imfinizi were still alive two years later, compared to 10 % of patients who received chemotherapy plus a placebo.

So by adding Imfinzi, there is certainly an advantage to this aggressive form of cancer; usually, side effects are not common in severe forms. Mild side effects are usually manageable.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
