Will two pills right after a missed dose keep contraceptives effective?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been taking birth control pills but missed one day. The next day, I took two pills as I read online that it was necessary. The day after that, while still on the pills, I experienced my period. What should I do? Am I still protected?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Yes, it is advisable to take two pills together if you miss one dose and then continue with the rest of the packet. Could you please let me know on which day you missed the dose? It seems you are still safe as long as you continue with the rest of the pack.

Thanks and regards.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

I have four pills left in the pack, so I am currently in week three.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You are safe. There is no need to worry about pregnancy at this point. Finish taking the remaining tablets and you can continue with the next pack, ensuring the contraceptive effect remains effective. Could you please provide some information about your menstrual flow? How many times have you changed your sanitary napkin? Is it light spotting or a full-blown period?

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

Yesterday, it was spotting, but today I am experiencing a full-blown period. After I finish the remaining tablets, should I start another pack immediately? Or should I wait for seven days before beginning the next pack?

Answered by Dr. Khushbu

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You should continue without any gap to maintain the contraceptive effect in the next cycle. Taking a break might make things more challenging. Therefore, proceed with the next pack immediately without any gap. Your period should stop within two to three days.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

So, am I safe for the time being?

Answered by Dr. Khushbu

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, you are safe now. However, please remember that if you ever miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. It is best to avoid skipping doses to prevent irregular spotting between cycles. I hope you are feeling more at ease now.

Thank you.

I hope your queries are resolved and any further queries are welcome.
