Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am eight weeks pregnant. I started having severe stomach aches, vomiting, and vaginal bleeding for two days. After reaching the emergency department, I got to know that it may be due to a suspicious chorionic bump found in the ultrasound. Need to know more about its impact on my pregnancy as I am almost eight weeks pregnant, and today’s ultrasound confirmed a breathing heart with a heart rate of 139 beats per minute.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

I have reviewed the attached reports (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). The cause of chorionic bump is not very much evident. Although it is considered a risk factor for pregnancy loss, it is not an issue in some cases. A follow-up ultrasound is advisable once or twice a week. But studies have shown that a chorionic bump increases the likelihood of chromosomal abnormality in high-risk babies. So detailed ultrasound is very much necessary for the examination.

In many cases, the bump disappears as pregnancy advances. You have a good fetal heart rate, so there is no need to get panic. Just rest as much as you can. Taking folic acid tablets is essential as you are in your 1st trimester. Also, do a serum vitamin D assay blood test. Drink enough fluids as possible.

Thank you.

Investigations to be done

Serum vitamin D levels. Early pregnancy scan after 5 to 6 days.

Treatment plan

Tablet Folic acid 4 mg per day.

Regarding follow up

Follow up with your obstetrician.
