Will there be any problem in pregnancy if the couple have same blood group?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 25 years old. I am willing to marry my childhood friend. She is older than I by five months, and our blood group is the same, which is AB positive. Here are my questions:

  • Will there be any problems during pregnancy?
  • Are any tests required to ensure there are no problems in the future?
  • Is there any solution?

Please advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

The medical condition causing the trouble is Rh incompatibility. There is no possibility of that in your case as you both are AB positive and hence, your blood groups are compatible. There is no medical problem. You need not go for any tests, either.

I hope this helps you.

All the best.
