I have BP. How do I overcome my anxiety about heart disease?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 31 years old and have been a BP (blood pressure) patient for the past four years. Please check my ECG report. I have a fear of heart-related issues because of my BP. I get an ECG done three times a month and frequently visit hospitals for opinions, even though doctors have told me I am normal. Troponin I Combo- Negative Troponin values are 0.05 ng/ml.

Despite this, I am not satisfied and often go for a troponin I test, which has also come back normal all three times in a month. I do not know how to overcome this problem. I am currently taking Metoprolol succinate in the morning and Telmisartan at night.

Please help me.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have reviewed your ECG report (attachment removed to protect patient identity) and understand what you are going through. Your ECG (electrocardiogram) is normal, but it does show tachycardia (an elevated heart rate). I understand your concerns about having high blood pressure for the past four years, but please rest assured, there is no need to worry.

If you are willing to adjust your lifestyle and take your medications as prescribed by your physician, you can lead a very healthy and long life. I have patients who are over 90 years old and have been living with hypertension for more than 50 years they are doing well.

Here is my advice:

  1. Start exercising: Engage in activities like walking or jogging for 30 to 40 minutes, three times a week. This will greatly benefit your heart.
  2. Reduce salt intake: Avoid adding raw salt to your food after cooking; instead, add it only during cooking.
  3. Eat a healthy diet: Focus on eating more fruits and vegetables and work towards maintaining a healthy weight, as weight loss can help reduce high blood pressure.
  4. Stay consistent: These changes take time, but if you commit to them, you will notice improvements in your health within a few months.

With these adjustments, you will feel better and improve your overall health. You are on the right path, and I am confident that you will achieve great results.

I hope this information has been helpful.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Please reassure me that my heart is 100 percent fine so I can feel better. The laboratory technician mentioned there were some inverted T waves, which frightened me a lot. However, I am feeling better now.

Please help.
